Thomas H. Taylor of Russell ville, was fatally wounded as Police Chief Lunie Kent and other officers sought to arrest him. Chief Kent said the taxicab driver, Wylie F. Martin of Florence, told him he was wounded by Taylor after a wild six-hour ride during which Taylor forced him at gunpoint to enter the bank with a pistol to rob the cashier. In his cell at the Russellville jail where he was taken for questioning by the FBI, Martin said that Taylor rented his cab at Florence yesterday morning and compelled him to participate in the attempted robbery.

Taylor and Martin fled from the bank after Cashier C. P. Allman sounded an alarm. Their taxicab broke down about two miles from here and Taylor was shot when officers arrived. Kent said no charges had been filed against Martin, whose head was injured when Taylor struck him with a pistol.

Sigler said the contract entered into by the Kelly administration would have cost approximately $50,000 for 10 months' work and that the cancellations, effective February 28. would save the state more than 522,000. The governor said economy was the sole motive behind canceling the contract.
