But the story of the Rambat family in business in Lansing goes back a total of fifty four years! It started with Julius and Rose's father. Milo. and their mother, Mary, coming to Lansing from Yugoslavia. By working around the clock, and borrowing the money, they opened Milo's in 1923. The business was located on Olds Avenue, which was then called Isaac Street.

At the time Fisher Body was located across the street, with most of the area being residential Julius. Rose, and their sister Josephine worked i 3 iMirm Jul 1 in the bar while growing up In 1951 Julius and" Delphine took over the management of the business through the time in 1973 when General Motors bought it in order to expand their facilities August 26. 1973. was declared Milo's Day here in Lansing, marking an end for the Rambat family of fifty years of business on Olds Avenue Milo passed away in 1 967. but "Mom" (Mary) is now retired, and still wields a "big stick" over Julius, giving him much advice on the business.

In June 10. 1976, Julius, Delphine. and Rose opened Milo's Taverna They are helped by younger Rambats. Greg, who is starting at M.S.U., Rayna. who is at 'M and Dara who is completing her Sophomore year at Hill High School.

Their eldest daughter, Jadel, and her husband Paul Lerner. live in Frish Meadows. Queens, New York. Julius feels that same personal touch is the biggest asset of small business, and he has kept Milo's name as a reminder to everyone of the standards they have set He also feels lucky to have employes that make Milo's what it is. In case you haven't been to Milo's Taverna, it is an attractive restaurant and bar catering to people who want to be informal when going out for good food and drinks.

The Rabats make special efforts to make sure that all their customers are both comfortable and satisfied. The definition of the word Taverna is a friendly, informal place to eat and drink, and that is exactly what the Rambats have accomplished with Milo's.
