Hornets go 12-for-12 from foul line in a defeating Lakewood Lansing State Journal WILLIAMSTON The Hornets wish they had been this hot from the free throw a week ago. Williamston hit 12-of-12 free throws in the last four minutes of the game to hold off Lakewood 69-54 in a non-league game Tuesday. It was a shooting performance first-year coach Todd Kleinow wished his 7-1 Hornets would have had against Mason last Wednesday. "If we had shot that good against Mason we wouldn't have that one in our loss column," Kleinow said. "We couldn't buy a free throw in that game, went 5-for-13 in the fourth quarter and lost by five." Lakewood (3-4) twice reduced big Williamston leads to five-point margins, yet never being able to get closer.

The Vikings trimmed a 15- Eoint lead in the first half to five by alftime and a 12-point Hornet lead to five with four minutes to play. Tim Cline led all scorers with 20 points for Williamston, including 13 in the second half. Nick Lycos added 16 points, including three 3-pointers, and Eric Dunckel had 15 points. Dunckel led the fourth-quarter free throw fest by hitting six-of-six. The Hornets connected on free throws for the game.

Matt Goodemoot led Lakewood with 17 points, followed by 12-point performances by Blake Elsie and Jason Elenbaas. Elsie canned three 3-pointers and Elenbaas had two. Lansing State Journal IONIA DeWitt built an early 12-point lead and withstood Ionia's second-half rally for a 64-58 non-conference prep basketball victory Tuesday in a game matching area powers. The victory was DeWitt's sixth against just one loss, while Ionia fell to 6-2.

Jason Kreider connected on seven of eight fourth-quarter free throws and Ben Drayton made 5-of-6 during that period for the Panthers, who scored 16 of their 28 points in the quarter from the free-throw line. Rob Bobeda had 14 points and six rebounds for DeWitt while Casey Laughlin and Jason Kreider had 11 points apiece and Jay Lamer added 10. Bill Thomas had 15 points and seven rebounds and Ryan Basler added 13 for Ionia. The Bulldogs, who made six 3-point baskets, rallied to within one point at the end of the third quarter.
