The win enabled Ionia (8-2, 17-3) to share the league title with St.

Johns, which defeated Alma 75-57 Friday. It was the fourth consecutive year that Ionia has won or shared the title. Seniors Bill Thomas, Wayne Pierce-filed and Jim Lemke led Ionia with 13, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Corunna (5-5, 12-8) outshot Ionia 51-36 percent, but was outrebound-ed 39-23. Corunna committed 27 turnovers and Ionia had 19.

Ithaca CSAA Shaw scores 20 points as Yellow Jackets top Carson City, 71-57 Lansing State Journal CARSON CITY Senior center John Shaw scored 20 points to lead a balanced Ithaca attack in defeating Carson City 71-57 Friday. The victory earned the Yellowjackets the Central State Activities Association championship. It is the first outright league title for Ithaca since 1974. The Yellowjackets (12-2, 17-3), who have won 13 games in a row, shared the CSAA title in both 1992 and 1993.

Their 17 wins ties the school record for regular season victories with the 1974 club. Seth Stapleton added 18 points and Aaron Crumbaugh had 15 for Ithaca, but it was the play of an unsung Yellowjacket that garnered coach Bob Anderson's praise. "We had out big three score a lot of points Stapleton, Shaw, and Crumbaugh but it was Steve Vernon that really made the difference," Anderson said. "He only scored four points, but he had 1 1 big assists and he played great." Carson City turned the ball over in six of its eight possessions in the second quarter and Ithaca turned them into a 10-point halftime lead. Jeremy Rogers led the Eagles (7-7, 11-9) with a game-high 23 points and Eric Peiffer added 10.

Jerry Nozewski (0-1) took the loss after starter Tom Olejnik pitched six innings giving up one run on four hits. Olejnik struck out four and didn't give up a walk. 'Lions top Dansville win SMAA crown Lansing State Journal VERMONTVTLLE Maple Valley fans came to honor a basketball hero of the recent past and a league championship team of today. The Lions had five players score in double figures to defeat Dansville 75-56 Friday and capture the Southern Michigan Athletic Association title. Both teams entered the game with 10-1 league records and 15-4 overall marks. It is Maple Valley's first league championship since 1992. Maple Valley retired the No.

23 jersey of local legend Shawn Thompson, whose 32.6 points per game average in 1990 was the best in the state. The Lions can't boast such a scorer this season, but they have balance that is tough to defense. Wayne Moore led the Lions with 15 points, Adam Driksna added 14, Scott Heyboer 13, Aaron Tobias 12, and Damon Patrick 10. Tobias grabbed nine rebounds. Although Brian Hopkins and Pete Kellepourey didn't score much for Maple Valley, their defense held Dansville's leading scorer without a basket in the second half.
