Lansing Formerly of Elk Rapids Bath Born Febru Age 52, In Iovin memory passed away on November 24, 2000, after a valiant fight against cancer. Steve Age 79, died November 20, 2000, at home, in East Lansing. He was born to C. Howard Olmsted and Rosella Wais Olmsted in Duluth, MN.

Age 58, passed away November 17, 2000 at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. He is survived by 2 sons, Greg Pierce and John Van Patten of Lansing; 1 daughter, ary 27, 1942, in Saginaw; died November 25, 2000, at the age of 5 8. Ed retired from General Motors after 30 years of service and was a School Bus Driver for vV Age 89, left to join his loving bride, November 25, 2000. Dortha was a devoted Paraprofes-sional Educator for children with special needs working in the East Lansing Schools for over 25 years. She spent years of her life volunteering in many community organizations, including Girl Scouts, the American Red Cross, M.S.U. International Program, served for over 10 years with the Ingham County Children's Trust Fund Council and several others.

Dortha also served within several ministries including Eastminster Presbyterian Church of Lisa Gamble of Mason; 2 grandsons, Travis Jason and Ryan Scott Gamble; stepchildren and step-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Bob Pierce, Donald (Patti) Little; 1 sister, Shirley (Bob) Staten; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Also, a special companion, Linda Van Patten; her children, grandchildren, and Mom. Funeral services and burial were held on November 22, 2000 in Franklin Furnace, OH. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, November 29, at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3815 S.

Cedar Lansing, with Father John Byers, Pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Gorsiine-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Lansing, on Tuesday from 24 and 6-8 p.m. with Scripture Service at 7 p.m.

There will also be a memorial service for both he and his wife at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Elk Rapids, at a time to be announced later. After graduating from Blissfield High School, Steve resided in the East Lansing area for the rest of his adult life, during which time he was a noted Chef, Restaurateur and Wine Broker.

An erudite man, his love for history and politics lent him to share his views freely and often. It was a service to all who listened and the void that now exists will not be easily filled. Steven is survived by his loving wife, Sheri, and 2 children, James fMcNitt) and Erin (McNitt). He is also survived by his father, Donald Thelander; his mother, Elsie Hamilton; and 3 sisters, Patricia, Beverly, and Susan. Memorial vices will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2000, at 4 p.m.

LAWHEAD, DUANE J. Tavares, FL Formerly of Eaton Rapids Age 79, died Wednesday, November 22, 2000. Born October 14, 1921 in Potterville, the son of Donald and Kathleen (Kinsel) Lawhead. Duane was a decorated Army Air Corp. Veteran of World War if, receiving a Purple Heart.

He was a retired Master Metal Smith for Aircraft working for the United States Department of Defense. A member of the Masonic Lodge 63, the American Legion Post 15 and the V.F.W. Post 1238 all of Eaton Rapids. Surviving are his wife, Fay; 2 sons, Dennis of Eaton Rapids and David of Onstead; Age 83,, went home to be with the Lord after an extended III on Thursday, November 23, 2000. Howard was a teamster and retired from S.D.

Solomon and Sons in X4 1 'pi A ft received his bachelors degree in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 1941 In 1946, after completing military service as a Link Trainer Instructor in the Army Air Force, he began graduate studies in Sociology, receiving a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Minnesota. He was a member of the Sociology Department at Michigan State University from 1957 until his retirement in 1990. During his tenure at M.S.U. he had a joint appointment in the Institute of Community Development and served several years as an Assistant Dean in the College of Social Science.

Prior to coming to M.S.U. he was a faculty member in Sociology at West Virginia University and the University of Wisconsin. As a Social Psychologist his teaching and research specialized in the social psychological components of community leadership, small group organization, and the sociology of mental health. He also had a long-term interest in research methods and their appropriate use in social psychological studies. He was a member of the American Sociological Association, the American Psychological Association and was also a member of the professional journalism fraternity, Sigma Delta Chi and of Phi Delta Theta.

Husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle were important roles to him. He will be greatly missed by Garver Olmsted, his wife of 50 his daughter, Caroline Olmsted, his son-in-law, David Regalbuto, and his grandchildren, Eric and Andrea Regalbuto. He also leaves to mourn his brother, John Olmsted and wife, Jeanette; his sisters-in-law, Mary Ruth Olmsted and Mary Garver Euchner and husband, Richard Euchner; his 6 nieces and nephews; his 5 great-nieces and nephews; and 3 young women, 2 from Europe and 1 from the United States have lived as members of the family for extended periods of time. He was preceded in death by his Barents, and his older brother, oward N. Olmsted.

Cremation has occurred. A memorial service will be held in the Alumni Chapel on the M.S.U. Campus on Thursday, November 30, 2000, at 3 p.m. The family will greet friends in the social hall of the Chapel after the service. A Committal service will be held in Eagle River, Wl, next summer at the graveside of his parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Research Fund, Department of Surgery, M.S.U., B424 Clinical Center, East Lansing; Senior Health Clinic, St. Lawrence Hospital, 1210 W. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Cromwell and Bertha May McMillin; 1 infant sister, Nora Mac; 2 brothers, Melton Edgar "Mac" and Robert Owen; 1 sister, Virginia Roach; and her beloved second mother, Jean Surviving are 3 beloved daughters, Ann Marie (James Olsen, and their children, Ryan, Jar-rod, Zachery, Alainamae, and Kalil, of Haslett, MI; Julia (Eric) Payne, and their children, Daryn, Cassandra, Larissa, and Gillen of Muskegon, MI; and Deborah (Dwayne) Mufl-ins of Boulder, CO; the father of her daughters, Daniel E. Chappelle, Ph.D., of Sacaramento, CA; and dearly loved friend, William A.

Duerr, Ph.D., of Blacksburg, VA, who was her second father. Also surviving are 1 brother, W. Joe (Shirley) McMillin of Salt Lake City, UT; 2 sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 2, at 4 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co.

RUST, EMMA JEAN Formerly of Lansing Age 65, passed away in her home on November 21, 2000. She was a longtime resident of Lansing, where she was a homemaker and loving mother to her 4 children. Emma was born in Flint December 27, 1934 to John and Dorothy (Cole) Gaines.

She was preceded in death by her husband. Paul Rust, of Lansing; and East Lansing Born July 17, 1927, in Stuart, 1A; died November 22, 2000, at the age of 73. Mr. Pike was a Veteran of World War II, having served with the overseas Coast Guard and was a Pilot for Francis Aviation. He was active in scouting for several years and was a member of the Order of the Arrow and an avid boater.

Mr. Pike was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Lockwood (1990), and 2 brothers, John Pike and Virgil Burggren, and 1 sister, Bessie Short. Surviving are his stepson, Robert E. (Terri Terrace) Lockwood of East Lansing; 1 grandson, Drew A.

Lock-wood; 2 brothers, Francis Pike of Holt and Pearl Pike of Horsehead Lake, TX; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 28, at 10 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River East Lansing.

Interment will follow in Glendale Cemetery, Okem-os. The family will receive friends at the Chapel on Monday from 2A and 6-8 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society, 3315 S. Pennsylvania Lansing, 48910, in memory of Mr. Pike.

An avid fisherman who loved hunting and everything outdoors, he hada wonderful sense of humor and had many Irish tales to tell. Howard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret; and children, Janet (Orville) Gray, Rodney Root, Howard D. Root, Linda Root, James (Tracy) Root, Byron Root, Christine (Duane) Dennings, and Kelley (Laura) Root; 23 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 27, 2000 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel in the Pines Funeral Home with Dr.

Daryl Franzel, Pastor of Capitol City Baptist Church officiating. Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral nome.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice House of Mid Michigan. A special thank you to the Hospice Staff for the kind loving care Howard received. WITT, HERBERT W. St. Johns Age 89, died Saturday, November 25, 2000.

He was born in Riley Township on February 4, 1911, the son of William F. and Lulu (Krumm) Witt. He was a member and an elder of St. Peter Lutheran Church and a member of the Farm Bureau having been a retired farmer. Herbert married Olga J.

McPrangle on June 8, 1932 and she survives him. Also surviving are 1 son, Dorrell (Caroline) Witt of Grand Ledge; 2 daughters, Mar-lene (Eric) Peterson of DeWitt and Mary (Dennis) Whitlock of St. Johns; 11 grandchildren; 7 greatgrandchildren; and 1 brother, Howard Witt of Houghton Lake. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 28, 2000, 1 p.m. at St.

Peter Lutheran Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Heimsoth officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 6-8 p.m.
