'Critters' not worth the effort By ANNE MARIE BIONDO Gannett News Service v Those critters like it in Gravers Bend. They're back, but there's no reason for audiences to encourage encourage them by going to see them. "Critters 2,M at the Meridian and Elmwood, is a vile excuse for entertainment It tries to mix horror horror with humor, but the results are disgusting. ' ; The critters consume everything everything from fast-food fast-food fast-food to flesh. They attack the movie's grouchy characters characters and eat them to the bone. We're treated to endless footage of these long-fanged long-fanged long-fanged furballs in feeding frenzies. The story is so thin that an outer space subplot is added. The second set of space guys take on -the -the identity of earthlings. The only apparent reason for this lame device is to photograph a man becoming a Playboy bunny, growing breasts and the whole bit The original "Critters" were semicute and mischievous. Here, ' they're cruel and grotesque. REVIEW "Critters" Rating: 1, on a 0-10 0-10 0-10 scale. Critique: A fun idea turns it into a 'grotesque, mean-spirited mean-spirited mean-spirited film. Where: Meridian and Elmwood theaters.
